As someone who grew up here and came back to make a difference, Phil has thought long and hard about what Cuyahoga County needs — and what he, as the councilman for District 11, can do about it. Phil’s ideas provide a view of the role he envisions for the new county government and a sample of the ideas that he plans to work for once elected.
Our success as a new government will depend on how well we can rise to the challenges presented by the 21st century and the realities of our modern economy. We must take a new look at how we use our land, how we train our workforce, and how we approach economic opportunities. We must re-energize our economy.
For too long now, we’ve watched people — especially young people — get a great education here and then head elsewhere. We need to look beyond just stopping this brain drain to creating a brain gain. This means not only attracting new residents and businesses to the county, but also continuing our commitment to education by driving efforts to create more opportunities right here.
The citizens of Cuyahoga County have spoken: it is time for a change in how Cuyahoga County operates. We are committed to bringing to the county the government that it deserves. As part of this effort, we’ll work to ensure that county services are effective and efficient, government is open and honest, and that the county workforce is the best it can be.
